For SF, why not try the nominees and winners for the:

    SFWA Nebula Awards
    Hugo Awards

There are also the great novels of the genre: DUNE by Frank Herbert, STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND by Robert Heinlein, THE LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS by Ursula K. Leguin, the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov, CHILDHOOD’S END by Arthur C. Clarke, THE MARTIAN CHORNICLES by Ray Bradbury.

For horror: Anything by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub, Thomas Tessier, F. Paul Wilson.

At 16 you’re probably ready for the novels the adults read. Enjoy!

I’d recommend Ender’s game and the books that come after it. And Ender’s shadow and the books that follow those also. They’re all by Orson Scott Card.

  • C M:

well the following books are good

    Ok!!! lets see:
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a really good book
then Catching fire is the sequel.
Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber is also good! (might be TOO young!!)
The Blue Blood series by Melissa de la Cruz is also good
o and the Vampire Diaries series by LJ Smith.
    hmmmmmm……
o o the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson? is also very good!
And The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare such as the City of Bones and so on.

EDIT: a few other choices would be the harry potter series and/or the twilight saga but you have probably either read or heard of them!
